An Endeavour to Break the Record for the Longest Ever Squash Match

Alex and Michael want to break the record (current Record 38h:00m:27s) for the longest singles squash marathon match. This will be attempted at their local squash club in Tring, Hertfordshire, UK where both are members, play regularly and captain different club teams in the local county leagues. Alex and Michael have played squash for over 30 years and both like to challenge themselves physically and mentally and believe that this challenge would certainly tick these boxes. Both are very competitive so will be taking the match element of the challenge seriously and will be playing to win, obviously while trying to pace themselves! They have extensive networks in the squash community and through business activities this will put them in a strong position to raise a significant amount of fundraising for Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, funding a bladder scanner.

‘The bladder scanner, allows clinicians to quickly and accurately measure bladder volume, would be used to help treat a variety of patients in the Hospice. A bladder scan identifies any residual urine after the bladder has been emptied, which if left untreated, can lead to infections and increased pain and discomfort. At present we have to borrow a scanner from the hospital or move the patient to where the scanner is located within the hospital. This is happening several times every week. By having a scanner in the building we will cause less disruption and be able to scan promptly and effectively. The new scanner will enable us to improve the care we are giving to our patients.’
The cost of a hospital grade bladder scanner is around £7,500.

Alex and Michael started the challenge at 4am on the 16th September with an aim to complete around 8pm on the 17th September 2022, supported by a team of volunteers. To help them both through the night, Tring Squash Club organised a 'Squashathon' from 8pm to 8am, to give them both the much needed support through the 'worst' hours.

The Start at 4am!

After 40 hours 1 minute and 59 secs the Longest Ever Squash Marathon came to an end, a record broken and fundraising exceeding the target of £8000.

“So happy to have had GWR sanction our attempt and that it's an official world record. I can't thank the team, club, volunteers, and my opponent enough for the experience and the achievement. It was extra special that a number of us were gathered together for a birthday lunch at the moment that we discovered the news.” Alex
“It was a big relief to recently have our world record attempt confirmed by Guinness. Receiving the official certificate, the other day really helped the achievement sink in. This was a fantastic achievement for the whole team involved in making this possible.” Michael
At the end
Confirmation received!
Presenting the cheque to the hospice.
